Question 5) How did you attract/ address your target audience?
When creating my thriller, I did some secondary research in order is to help me understand the structure on how other directors have attracted their thriller target audience. The importance of this was to help me identify the ways I could help my filming team to develop the correct skills and use the correct appropriate convections that will help us to achieve in applying to our correct audience age rage. From this research I believe that the target audience for thriller films are mainly '15' and above as horror thrillers are often less intellectually demanding, more chilling and are therefore often aimed at young adults, from mature adults and onwards. The common themes of violence, gore and mature themes were also used to appeal to this audience. From this, the audience that I wanted to attract for my thriller is young adults from ages 15 to 18 as they have maturity to understand the concept of a thriller as they could relate to the characters and themes so therefore they will understand what the genre may be about.
Attracting my audience:
In order to ensure that I was addressing my audiences needs, i accrued out a questionnaire I asked different types of questions such as; open, closed and multiple, because I wanted to collect and evaluate the different answers I may by offered from these questions. Therefore open questions allow the audience to write their opinion in detail. This then will be useful for filming team as they had detailed information of what their audience may want. On the other hand, closed questions allowed my audience to agree or disagree with that question. It was very important that I carried out a questionnaire as it made my plan clear of what I had to include in my Thriller.
I have identified four key questions that I asked my audience in order to help me make ket decisions, so that I was ensuring when attracting and addressing my target audience.
1) What setting would you prefer in the Thriller you would like to watch? Explain in detail.
The answer I got from this question was, 'I would prefer to watch a horror thriller as it creates tension and suspsense.' I asked ages 15-16 for this question as, they are young adults they would be able to mentally understand what the scene is about. This will also allow them to identify their opinions in films and what they would want to expect from a thriller.
2) Do you enjoy a twist in a Thriller to build suspense? Circle on. ( YES or NO)
The most answer I got for this question was, 'Yes.' As it is important for the audience to have a connection with the characters in a way that bulids tension. This was helpful feedback as I now know in what way my audience may connet with my characters.
3) Do you prefer a Male, Female or Monster as an antagonist? Tick one. (Male) (Female) (Monster)
The answer I got for this question was, 'Antagonist.' This was useful feedback as my audience may want a antagonist as he/ she can have a hidden idenity and this creates wonder for the audiece.
4) What do you expect in a 15 rated Crime Thriller? Explain in detail.
This question was useful as my audinec gave me a brief detailed answer, 'In a 15 rated crime film, I would expect use of drugs, not in a way ro promote it and use of weapons.' This was useful feedback as If I was to create a crime thriller, I would have the knowledge to know what I need to include to get my audiences attendtion.
Identify two quotes that you got from your open ended questions that helped you make key decisions in ensure that you were attracting and addressing your target audience:
1) What setting would you prefer in the Thriller you would like to watch? Explain in detail.
ANSWER FROM AUDIENDCE: Outside a house because more things can happen.
I asked people ages 16-18 and the majority agreed that the setting should be outside the house. This was useful as I now know that i must set my thriller outside as it will be more enjoyable by the audience.

2) What do you expect in a 15 rated Crime Thriller? Explain in detail.
ANSWER FROM AUDIENCE: A bit of explicit language and behaviour, not a lot of drug use.
I asked people ages 16-18 and this was the response from the audience. Therefore, i will include these factors to ensure the audience like the thriller and will want to watch it.

Include Image of my Questionnaire:
This is my Thriller questionnaire that I gave out to my audience to answer, I asked around 20 people and pupils ages between 15 - 20 because my thriller questionnaire uses themes of violence and horror which is not suitable for below ages.
Some key results:
These images are some of the results I got from my questionnaire that was answered by the audience:
Audience feedback:
Furthermore, after creating my production I held a focus group because I want to be informed of my audiences opinions of my production. The people that were asked to come and view the production were individuals that I was friends with. We had different feedback from different individuals, these individual explained what went well and how we could improve. We took our audiences opinions and ideas into consideration as an film crew we need to reflect and improve depending on their ideas. Below is some of the criticism I received.
Focus Group:

1) one bit of feedback I received was'
This individual explained that the use of lighting was not dark enough as to be presented as a realistic clip however we could improve this negative point by making sure low key and high key lighting is used as to build fear and anxiety. I think that I did not attract my audience very well because i did not use the different lighting techniques very effectively as the individual explains I just added too much lighting without using it for the correct scenes.

I think that we presented our characters very effectively however we could improve this point by making sure we use mise en scene as for costume, hair and make up. This made me feel like I did not get my audiences attention much as the incorrect use of Mise en scene for costume was not correct because I did not think about what kind of costume my characters could wear to illustrate that one of them is a antagonist and one of them is the pro antagonist.

Throughout our final product, we have used different camera angles which allowed us to get the audiences attention. From this point, I think that I did attract my audience because the use of editing different camera angles and movements has helped us to appear as a professional; and organised filming crew. I also think that by using different camera angles, this allowed my audience to feel engaged to my thriller.

In our final product, we made sure that we illustrate our opening credits as very simple and clear. I think that our opening credits has been well presented as we ensured that our opening credits were simple but effective which made it appear to be outstanding.
Overall, I think that we did do a good job by attracting and addressing to our target audience because firstly I think that creating questionnaires has allowed me to identify what kind of expectations our audience may want so therefore when filming for our final product. I ensured that we use all the conventions that is needed to order to present our clip as a conventional thriller. Also by creating the questionnaires it has allowed me to consider what kind of Mirco-elements that I will need to use in a effective way to attract and address our target audience.

Some excellent work here on how you addressed and attracted your target audience. Initial research into the audience has taken places through secondary research and this has helped you make decisions on how to utilise them in your work.
ReplyDeleteThe importance of audience is understood as you display your questionnaire and identify key questions and illustrate the results you received which helped you with specific choices and outcomes, for example typography, characters and themes.
Finally, you include feedback you received post-production in form of the focus group.
-state at the end overall whether you feel you did a good job in attracting and addressing your target audience.
Sir,I also included an conclusion at the end.
